About the position

The post will focus on the development of materials/binder systems for construction and infrastructure projects with enhanced sustainability, environmental impact and long term performances. New ideas as well as new research directions are usually welcome.
The key responsibilities are:

driving, planning and conducting individual and collaborative research activities including the development of novel cementitious binder systems, materials and products that can be used in construction;
the design and execution of relevant laboratory work;
development of advanced testing methodologies and analytical tools, addressing performance, optimization, manufacturing and scaling up challenges.
You will be also involved in carrying out and assisting with all activities occurring within the laboratory as well as in the job site when needed. For example, activities for making concrete mortars and assessing suitability of new building materials. Testing the fresh concrete properties in the field, etc.

Job requirements

Availability to start immediately
You have experience in multidisciplinary research works as well as laboratory activities
You have experience with cement / concrete
You have experience with lab facilities, testing methods and standards
You can work independently but also function well within a team
You work efficiently and accurately, both independently and in a team
You have a practical and flexible attitude
You also actively think along to improve existing processes and methods and you ensure optimal speed and quality in the work
You are stress resistant and have a flexible attitude
You are willing to work outside normal working hours and to work overtime if necessary
You are prepared to perform other work than agreed if the work necessitates this or if the internal work organization is changed

Other requirements

Education: HBO or higher
Other diploma may be accepted if the candidate proves knowledge/experience in research activities, lab works as well as in cement and concrete and other construction materials

Applicants must have

Knowledge in civil engineering, engineering materials, chemistry, or a relevant discipline
A strong background in the development, characterization and testing of cementitious materials and systems and relevant research methodologies
Excellent communication skills in Dutch & English, both written and oral which will help to write reports, scientific works as well as participation in specialized courses and seminars
Organizational and problem solving skills; to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and to engage with industry partners
Relevant experience in innovative cementitious materials, geopolymers and alkali activated materials would be advantageous

Of course you cannot do all this alone. As a research assistant you are part of a new company SCS. At the moment SCS consists of 5 employees with various specialisms and experience. Your colleagues support you when necessary and there is sufficient expertise to help you with this.

What we offer?

An annual contract with the prospect of permanent employment

A gross salary between € 3,000 and € 5,000 per month

Reimbursement of travel expenses

Full-time position (40 hours / week), but 32 hours / week is also negotiable

22-28 vacation days
